THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU to The Potting Shed for donating the beautiful cauliflower, broccoli, cabbage, watermelon, muskmelon, zucchini...and loads of other plants for the Constantine Community Garden.  45 feet of garden are full because of YOU!!!

Last time we all met it was real work, shoveling and building but planting...that's when the fun begins!  It was a beautiful sunny day in west Michigan as we began to get our hands in the dirt/poop...yes there was something originally thought of as a clump of dirt that was DEFINITELY dog poop YUCK!!!  Mel couldn't get the image out of her mind even after she wiped the poop off her hands :)

What could be better than planting alone in the peace and quite of mother earth, planting and teaching planting to children.  No sooner had we begun plucking weeds that had poked through since we built the garden that a few neighbor kids came over to help.  What seemed like "WORK when I'm doing it for my mom" became "I don't want to leave yet" funzies.  They learned how to soak the soil before planting seeds, dip the roots in water before planting small plants, and the depth of hole needed to plant potatoes.  The most challenging part of the day for Melodie and Cindy was making sure all the kids got as many opportunities as they could get to plant.  Sharing and taking turns were constants in the conversation.

Over the course of the next 2 months our work will be VIGILANCE!!!  Getting the weeds, making sure they aren't new plants and daily watering if we don't get rain.  Feel free to join in on the weeding funzies if you're in the area and have some free time.

This page will be updated as the progress continues.

Come on back!
